Sunrise

Helpnepal.ch supports schools, provides a financial bridge and act to help the people impacted by the earthquake to regain their financial independence. Activities include, for example, tourist-related measures with support in marketing, networking, website design, designing and publicizing offerings, such as laundry services, individual tours, and setting out in new directions, including graphic artists assisting us from Switzerland to Cambodia.

Project Sunrise: Coordinated by Kul Gautam. Sunrise includes the following programs:

Village in District Dhading

Village in District Dhading, aid convey from June 15, 2015

Roofs were supplied to 33 families as an immediate measure to protect a village in the District of Dhading, close to the epicenter, against monsoons.

We visited the remote villages in the mountains at the epicenter of the first, large quake. It was completely destroyed - not a single house was spared. By supplying roofing elements to all the families living in the village, the farmers were able to build temporary housing to safely make it through the monsoon season. Afterwards – in our view - the residents will be capable of rebuilding the houses. We do not anticipate another request for on-site aid and consider this program as completed.

The journey was accompanied by local press and garnered considerable Attention.

Village District Gorkha - School

Village District Gorkha - School

Delivery of roofing elements, furniture, and text books to benefit the destroyed the elementary school at Gorkha (epicenter). The beneficiaries were ca. 100 families as well as the people operating the school. The journey was planned for June, but had to be cancelled due to landslides. Moreover, gas is currently unavailable as India is boycotting deliveries for politically motivated reasons. We are staying on course.

The city of Gorkha is located directly at the epicenter, and the destruction is cataclysmic accordingly. We are helping to rebuild and furnish a public elementary school. We are also easing the burden on poorer families by purchasing books and making it possible for the children to quickly regain access to proper schooling.

Water line system Pokhara

Repair of a system of water lines and rebuilding the well. Location: On a hillside in Pokhara; beneficiaries are 20 families.

The well sank due to the earthquake with the water outlet and the well no longer fitting. In addition, the lines were damaged in a number of places and are leaking. As consequence, various households had no water directly available on site during the dry season prior to the Monsoon. All the water had to be carried greater distances to supply home and animals. We are supporting the overall restoration of the water piping system, i.e. engineering, planning, and materials. The families connected to the system are doing the actual work.

This program contributes tremendously to the restoration of financial independence. Beneficiaries are farmers and restaurateurs. Reliable access to water promotes the dairy, meat, and agricultural sectors as restaurants/tourism once again achieve an acceptable Standard.

School Shree in Badhaure Tamagi

School Shree in Badhaure Tamagi / English  teacher

Expanding schooling for English classes. Salary of English teacher paid for 2 years.

The local elementary school wants to expand English lessons and requested funds to pay salaries for additional classes. Trained teachers are available. The village is approximately a 2-hour drive by car outside the city of Pokhara in a mountainous region. Pokhara is a growing tourist destination that will be even more attractive, with the building of an international airport, for visitors, as well as a place to work for the local populace. The ability to communicate in English is an essential requirement for participating in the country's most important economic sector – tourism. We are very open to the request, as we are also clearly of the opinion that promoting English among the populace provides a means of generating income and with it independence for local families.

Landslide Lumle / Emergency aid

Landslide Lumle / Emergency aid

A landslide wiped out an entire village at midnight of July 30, 2015, killing 30. The in-laws of our coordinator Kul Gautam were also affected. The survivors lost everything. Nepalhilfe.ch provided emergency aid with the immediately delivery of medications, bedding, tarps, and kitchen utensils. It occurred during the monsoon season and living conditions were exceptionally difficult.

The popular Anapurna Circuit Trek, with normally some 100,000 tourists per year, runs through this area and is now severely damaged. Yet another blow to a region so dependent on tourism and shortly before the Autumn season.
